Although Mardi- Gras actually lasts for a period of several weeks in New Orleans-we are going to do in one night. There are lots of traditions surrounding the event and we hope you will join us. Here are some of them:

• Mardi Gras is about MUSIC: "Bourbon Street" - JAZZ! Its about the great Blues - Dixie Style Parade Tunes- "Conga Line" fun and slow dance favorites - from the serious to zany. If the Mummers put you in a good mood - expect the same for this! Something for everyone - and we will be playing a variety all evening so even those who leave earlier will get a taste of it ALL.
• Mardi Gras is about FOOD: For some this will be a 'first' to try 'blackened' chicken - dirty rice- and 'gumbo' - if you have heard and seen Emeril Lagase - enjoy foods with BAM! - We will however offer an alternative for the less brave! We will be serving in sample sizes so everyone can get a taste of the variety offered.
• Mardi Gras is about FUN: Although formal Masquerade Balls were the beginning - the tradition 'took off' when the citizens of New Orleans decided to have a sense of humor! It is about zaniness - parody- spoofing- outrageousness! It is a MASKED event - so your identity can be hidden! It is not a 'best dressed' event but rather a 'most creative - fun- silly' event. EXPECT TO LAUGH. We want this event to be an antidote to 'winter blues' - it is the 'last harrah' before the seriousness of Lent.
• The Crowning of a King & Queen is for FUN!: Mardi Gras started with a fake "King for the Day" event because the real King of Prussia was visiting New Orleans and they wanted to show him that they had one of their own! It is a surprise to all who wins! The King/Queen will be who gets the most $1.00 votes!
• The events of Mardi Gras must be done before Ash Wednesday- when Lent & our season of reflection begins. There will be no rescheduling in the event of severe weather. For those who don't want to take the chance of losing money-tickets will be available at the door. All tickets sold will be considered a donation to the Library Building Fund.
• The Parades of Mardi Gras are sponsored by 'member only' Krewes and you and your family, association, business and friends are invited to come as a group (krewe)-in a theme-either by color and or full costume. Beads and Masks are Mardi-Gras 'Musts' - but you can't 'flash' for ours-some will be free- A large collection is available at either the Frackville Library or Heaven Scent Florist MORE IS BETTER!
• This is a FUND RAISER: In order to show other funding sources of the Frackville Library Building Project they need to see community commitment to the idea-which means money. We will be charging for themed alcohol drinks but beer is included in price and you can BYOB. We will be selling souvenir items as well as raffling items throughout the evening. Demonstrate your excitement about a brand new building in Frackville by having fun and going home with fun prizes!
